Michael jordan Tobias Style (MTD)is a Kingston, Néw York-based manufacturer of electrical bass electric guitars established by luthier Michael Tobias in 1994.
Tobias, along with two part-time helpers, presently builds about 10 electrical basses per 30 days at his shop in Woodstock, Néw York. MTD's Kingston, Heir, and Saratoga basses are produced in China and taiwan to Tobias's i9000 specifications.12Tobias furthermore styles and builds up electric and acoustic basses in collaboration with musical instrument makers that have incorporated Lakland, Modulus, AIvarez, Brian Moore, ánd American Showster.34
MTD is certainly a successor to Tobias Electric guitars, founded in Orlando, Fl in Apr 1977 and sold to Gibson Harmonica Corporation in 1990. Following the sale, Tobias transferred to Kingston, Néw York, where hé started creating basses under the Over shadow title before living on 'MTD' (Meters Tobias Design) for the organization title and brand.5
MTD handmade American basses come in 35 inch-scale 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-string models and are accessible in a range of configuration settings. Necks are made from maple or lung burning ash with a rosewood fingerboard. Wood bodies are usually produced from medium weight lung burning ash, local tulip wood (aka Eastern yellow poplar), alder, ánd mahogany. MTD bodies and necks are ergonomically designed to enable entry to the instrument's prolonged level and feature an asymmetrical neck, a design where the neck of the guitar is slimmer on the lower side than the upper. Pick-ups and active electronics are a proprietary désign for MTD produced by Bill Bartolini. All presently manufactured MTD basses, like Kingston basses, employ the Hype Feiten Tuning System.
Lowér-priced Chinese-madé MTD Kingston facets consist of the Precision Bass-inspired CRB (or 'classic rock striper') and the Kingston Saratoga striper, charged as 'a contemporary re-imagining' of the classic Jazz-style bass.6Features of thé MTD Kingston bassés consist of an ergonomic desk body shape and asymmetrical throat.
